Jim Romanovich, President Worldwide Media and Entertainment shares his thoughts on “Black Thursday”.

Sorry for the lack of information lately.  All of this had just become to much and I really didn’t want to run around posting this rumor and that rumor.  Actually like many of you I just wanted to wake up and hope this was all a nightmare.  No such luck, woke up and found it was no Cinderella story I was living in. So finally I decided to pick up my boot straps and get back to what I love my “Daytime Soaps”!

Yes I am late, and in case you were under some rock with me I would not want you to miss this very interesting read: Enjoy!

And what about the soaps?  Well, we lost Guiding Light last year and As The World Turns this year.  Ironically, the last tape date for ATWT was Thursday, June 24th with its final airdate September 17th. This leaves six soaps-One Life To Live, All My Children, General Hospital, Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless, and The Bold and the Beautiful.  I predict two more will be gone in five years with all leaving daytime by 2020.

I don’t know what it is about Thursdays.  But that seems to be the day to hit people with bad news whether it’s the stock market crash of 1929, the Flash Crash of 2010, or the cancellation of two of our favorite soaps on April 14, 2011.  I guess they figure that Monday is not a good day because then you have all week to crash their servers and Friday is not a good day because then they would be seen as cowards in sort of a “hit and run” style.  But Thursday is good.  On Thursday you can kill something and have people sit in shock on Friday and then not have to deal with it until Monday thinking most of harshness will have abated by then.  That might be true if they stopped making your favorite cereal, but ABC grossly underestimated the backlash they are now getting.
